Cause We Were Both Young When I First Saw You

The title of this post was taken from the song Love Story by Taylor Swift.

Your anniversary with Mike Dawson is on August 9.
Thank you FB I wish I could leave him a message he would get. This would have been our 14th wedding anniversary, and our 15th year together. We were together almost half of my life. This may be my last post for a week or so. Not only is our anniversary on the 9th, but I'll be four months out on the 14th. Four months since he passed, and I really just need to be alone with my thoughts.
For this post I thought about sharing how we met, or telling some witty story, but really there just isn't anything to say. Instead I made a video. Here is a glimpse into who Mike and Mel were. Some of it may not make sense, from his art to the picture of his old van, it's who we were. I'll respond to any comments at some point after the 14th.

Melanie,
I wish I had something poignant to say. I don't. I know I don't know you as well as many of the people you are FB friends with or that follow your blog. But I enjoy reading your blog, even though I often cry. I am not sure why, I think because you do such a great job of conveying the emotion whether it is about Mike or your niece. I know you and I don't know each other well, but if it would ever be helpful to speak with someone who didn't know Mike or any of the great stories you two shared, I would be honored to listen. I will message you my number.

I almost didn't watch it because I knew it would tug at my heartstrings...which it did. What a beautiful love story. I'm so sorry you have been robbed of a loving husband and your kids of a loving father. But I'm also so glad that they had such a good dad while he was here. I will say... I found myself cracking up at how his hair got a bit shorter with the birth of each baby! :-) I'm sure your first anniversary without him was so hard to take. Love and hugs to you.

Melanie, I've spent more time on G+ lately and less on FB, and I didn't see this until just now because I neglected to check your blog for several days. Thank you for posting this video. Seeing Mike with long hair blows my mind. I think I caught a glimpse of the van, too, that you guys went to Utah in, right? Mike told me stories about the van. God, he looks so young in some of those pictures. And in some of the more recent ones I thought, yep, that's the Mike I got to know. And you were a beautiful bride. Thanks again for sharing this.

Darrell - That was his van :) He loved that thing. He called it the Mystery Machine. It always reminded me of a big metal lunch box on wheels. We were so young.
